Accountability Projects

At SLV TIERRA, we believe that accountability is the cornerstone of creating an equitable and thriving community in the San Luis Valley. Through our Accountability Projects, we work to ensure that nonprofits and organizations managing funding dedicated to community development uphold the highest standards of transparency, integrity, and equitable resource allocation.

Our current accountability project is focused on the San Luis Valley Local Foods Coalition (LFC). Read on for more details.

What is accountability?

In the San Luis Valley, where resources are precious and community needs are diverse, accountability takes on profound significance. Accountability is the responsibility to answer for one's actions and decisions, particularly in the context of managing funds and resources intended for community benefit. In the San Luis Valley, accountability is crucial for fostering trust, ensuring equitable distribution of resources, and building a strong foundation for sustainable development.

Our Approach to Accountability

Our Accountability Projects are dedicated to building a better San Luis Valley community. By holding organizations accountable, we strive to:

Promote Equity:
Ensure that funding is allocated equitably, with a focus on addressing systemic disparities and promoting inclusivity.

Enhance Transparency:
Encourage openness and transparency in financial reporting, decision-making processes, and project outcomes.

Foster Trust:
Build trust between organizations, funders, and the impacted community through integrity and accountability.

Public Accountability: A Last Resort for Equitable Practices

SLV TIERRA believes in organizations promoting equity having ample opportunity to address internal issues privately before public involvement is needed. We value genuine efforts and taking concerns seriously, particularly those raised by historically marginalized individuals. Those engaged in equity work are expected to prioritize community input and make structural changes to address inequities. Our accountability process is designed to prevent harm, foster healing, and advance collective efforts toward a more equitable San Luis Valley.
