Equity Report: LFC CFAA
Examining Misrepresentation and Performative Equity Practices in San Luis Valley Local Foods Coalition's Community Food and Agricultural Assessment
The San Luis Valley Local Foods Coalition (LFC) received over $1.14 million to conduct an equity-focused Community Food and Agricultural Assessment (CFAA) and related initiatives. This funding aimed to prioritize the voices and needs of historically marginalized communities in the San Luis Valley. However, SLV TIERRA's in-depth equity analysis uncovered significant issues, including a lack of representation from these communities, flawed data collection methods, and a troubling misalignment between stated goals and outcomes. These findings suggest that instead of genuinely addressing inequities, the CFAA and its proposed actions may perpetuate and worsen existing disparities. This raises serious concerns about relying on the CFAA to inform policy and planning without first addressing these critical equity issues.

“These reports are often embellished and not reflective of what is happening on the ground. Many times the affected community has not been meaningfully involved throughout the process.”

“As a community member who took the survey put out by the SLV LFC for their CFAA, I felt as though the questions were biased and not necessarily applicable to community members of color.”
